Galatians 1:1 NLT
1 This letter is from Paul, an apostle. I was not appointed by any
group of people or any human authority, but by Jesus Christ
himself and by God the Father, who raised Jesus from the dead.
I’m an apostle appointed by Jesus Christ himself.
Strong. Confident. Authoritative.
How does Paul describe himself?
1 Corinthians 15:9 NLT
9 For I am the least of all the apostles. In fact, I’m not even worthy to
be called an apostle after the way I persecuted God’s church.
5-7 years later. He’s less bold.
Still an Apostle, but the LEAST of all the Apostles.
How does Paul describe himself?
Ephesians 3:8 NLT
8 Though I am the least deserving of all God’s people, he graciously
gave me the privilege of telling the Gentiles about the endless
treasures available to them in Christ.
5-7 years later. He’s not comparing himself to other Apostles. He’s
comparing himself to all believers.
And he’s the least of them.
How does Paul describe himself?
1 Timothy 1:15 NLT
15 This is a trustworthy saying, and everyone should accept it: “Christ
Jesus came into the world to save sinners”—and I am the worst of
them all.
Near the end of his life.
He’s no longer comparing himself to Apostles or Believers.
He’s comparing himself to sinners, and he’s the worst sinner.
How does Paul describe himself?
1 Peter 5:6 NLT
6 So humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the
right time he will lift you up in honor.
Philippians 2:3-4 NLT
3Don’t be selfish; don’t try to impress others. Be humble, thinking of
others as better than yourselves.
4Don’t look out only for your own interests, but take an interest in
others, too.
Numbers 12:3 NLT
3 Now Moses was very humble—more humble than any other
person on earth.
God’s favor on your life requires deep humility.
Colossians 3:12 NLT
12 Since God chose you to be the holy people he loves, you must
clothe yourselves with tenderhearted mercy, kindness, humility,
gentleness, and patience.
Do your friends describe you with these 5 words?
Tender Mercy
Kindness
Humility
Gentleness
Patience
Easy to say you are humble.
Scripture says you should be humble.
But, are you pretending to be humble?
Only you know the answer.
Take 5 minutes for self-reflection.
How do you describe yourself?
