Exodus 18:1-4 NLT
1Moses’ father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, heard about everything
God had done for Moses and his people, the Israelites. He heard especially
about how the LORD had rescued them from Egypt.
2Earlier, Moses had sent his wife, Zipporah, and his two sons back to
Jethro, who had taken them in.
3(Moses’ first son was named Gershom, for Moses had said when the boy
was born, “I have been a foreigner in a foreign land.
4His second son was named Eliezer, for Moses had said, “The God of my
ancestors was my helper (Ezer); he rescued me from the sword of
Pharaoh.”)
Ezer
“to rescue, to save”, “to be strong”
Deuteronomy 33:1,4-7 NLT
1This is the blessing that Moses, the man of God, gave to the
people of Israel before his death:
4Moses gave us the LORD’s instruction, the special possession
of the people of Israel.
5The LORD became king in Israelwhen the leaders of the
people assembled, when the tribes of Israel gathered as one.
6Moses said this about the tribe of Reuben: “Let the tribe of
Reuben live and not die out, though they are few in number.
7Moses said this about the tribe of Judah: “O LORD, hear the
cry of Judah and bring them together as a people. Give them
strength to defend their cause; help (Ezer) them against their
enemies!
Deuteronomy 33:26-29 NLT
26 “There is no one like the God of Israel. He rides across the
heavens to help (Ezer) you, across the skies in majestic
splendor.
27 The eternal God is your refuge, and his everlasting arms are
under you. He drives out the enemy before you; he cries out,
‘Destroy them!
28 So Israel will live in safety, prosperous Jacob in security, in a
land of grain and new wine, while the heavens drop down dew.
29 How blessed you are, O Israel! Who else is like you, a people
saved by the LORD? He is your protecting (Ezer) shield and your
triumphant sword! Your enemies will cringe before you, and you
will stomp on their backs!
Psalms 20:1-2 NLT
1For the choir director: A psalm of David. In times of trouble,
may the LORD answer your cry. May the name of the God of
Jacob keep you safe from all harm.
2May he send you help (Ezer) from his sanctuary and
strengthen you from Jerusalem.
Psalms 33:17-22 NLT
17 Don’t count on your warhorse to give you victoryfor all its
strength, it cannot save you.
18 But the LORD watches over those who fear him, those who
rely on his unfailing love.
19 He rescues them from death and keeps them alive in times
of famine.
20 We put our hope in the LORD. He is our help (Ezer) and our
shield.
21 In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name.
22 Let your unfailing love surround us, LORD, for our hope is in
you alone.
Psalms 115:9-11 NLT
9 O Israel, trust the LORD! He is your helper (Ezer) and your
shield.
10 O priests, descendants of Aaron, trust the LORD! He is your
helper (Ezer) and your shield.
11 All you who fear the LORD, trust the LORD! He is your helper
(Ezer) and your shield.
Psalms 121:1-8 NLT
1A song for pilgrims ascending to Jerusalem. I look up to the
mountainsdoes my help (Ezer) come from there?
2My help (Ezer) comes from the LORD, who made heaven and
earth!
3He will not let you stumble; the one who watches over you will
not slumber.
4Indeed, he who watches over Israel never slumbers or sleeps.
5The LORD himself watches over you! The LORD stands beside
you as your protective shade.
6The sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon at night.
7The LORD keeps you from all harm and watches over your life.
8The LORD keeps watch over you as you come and go, both
now and forever.

Genesis 2:18-25 NLT
18 Then the LORD God said, “It is not good for the man to be alone. I will make a helper
(Ezer Kenegdo) who is just right for him.
19 So the LORD God formed from the ground all the wild animals and all the birds of the
sky. He brought them to the man to see what he would call them, and the man chose a
name for each one.
20 He gave names to all the livestock, all the birds of the sky, and all the wild animals. But
still there was no helper (Ezer Kenegdo) just right for him.
21 So the LORD God caused the man to fall into a deep sleep. While the man slept, the
LORD God took out one of the man’s ribs and closed up the opening.
22 Then the LORD God made a woman from the rib, and he brought her to the man.
23 At last!” the man exclaimed. “This one is bone from my bone, and flesh from my flesh!
She will be called ‘woman,’ because she was taken from ‘man.’”
24 This explains why a man leaves his father and mother and is joined to his wife, and the
two are united into one.
25 Now the man and his wife were both naked, but they felt no shame.
