From ppt #1
From ppt slide #10...know the definition of
“biblical doctrine”
The Assemblies of God doctrines are called,
“Statement of Fundamental Truths” and sometimes
the “16 Fundamental Truths of the A/G” (Slide
#8)
Understand what ‘natural law” is and know that
natural law cannot be a standard (measurement)
for righteous living because we are sinners
(fallen) and cannot be righteous by nature
alone (Slide #12)
The Bible is God inspired and not like any
other book... (Slide #13)
Ppt #2 Chapters 2 and 3
Chapter 2
One of the major proofs that God exists is that He
exists in creation (Slide #2)
To be saved, you must believe that Jesus is the
divine Son of God
We know that Adam and Eve were real people who were
the original ancestors of the human race. (Slide #4)
We know that pride was the first sin committed by
Satan causing God to through him out of heaven (Slide
#5)
We often struggle with ‘white lies’, thinking nothing
wrong, however, white lies destroy the foundation of
our relationship with God...as we give excuses for
unholiness (Slide #8)
Throughout history, there were lots of ‘apostasy”
taught and confusing the doctrine of Who Jesus is.
Apostasy is defined as ‘turning one’s back on
Christ after having tasted the heavenly gift
(salvation).
Know the Calvinistic acrostic of TULIP (page 36 and
Chapter 4 Slide #6)
The A/G view of becoming holy is called
‘progressive sanctification’, simply meaning, ‘the
process of becoming more like Jesus’ (Slide #15 &
Chpt 5-Slide 7)
As we move toward the doctrine of the Baptism of
the Holy Spirit, know that those who desire a
healthy spirit-filled life should have daily
communion with the Lord, pray in the Spirit, and
daily walk in the Spirit (pg 44)
We sometimes experience a delay in being filled
Chapter 6
There are 3 distinct purposes for Speaking in
Tongues (another language):
1) Being filled with the Holy Spirit, this
is the initial physical evidence of being
baptized in the Spirit tongues does not
have to be interpreted.
2) Your private/devotional language of
worship is not interpreted...this is
between you and God
3) The Gift of Speaking in Tongues I Cor
12 14 says this is a gift for the
congregation and must be interpreted (Slide
Chapter 7
Note: we cannot teach about the Gifts of the Holy
Spirit without comparing them side by side to the
Fruit of the Spirit. Paul gives the contrasts of
the fruit of the Spirit by identifying the works of
the flesh in Galatians 5
Four major Scripture passages list gifts and
ministries of the Holy Spirit:
1 Corinthians 12:810;
1 Corinthians 12:2830;
Romans 12:48; and
Ephesians 4:1112.
Note: that prophecy is the only gift that is
mentioned in all 4 groups of texts. (Slide #7 of
Prophecy—the utterance of a divine truth in a person’s own language, as
prompted by the Holy Spirit. Since this gift lacks the supernatural physical
evidence of other gifts, a word of caution is in order. We should never speak
our own thoughts and words and attribute them to God unless we know for
certain it is truly the Holy Spirit prompting us. See 1 Peter 4:1011.
Edification of believers and glory to God, not to oneself, must be our
guideline. (Chapt 7, Slide #11)
Chapter 8
Gifts of leadership in the body of Christ include
apostolic and prophetic ministry, evangelists,
pastors and teachers (Ephesians 4:11) as well as
helps, administration, and leading (1Corinthians
12:2728). Ministries of giving generously, showing
mercy, and encouraging others also are important to
the church (Rom 12). Each ministry is designed to
help the body of Christ fulfill its God-given
Positional gift of “apostles” has been questioned if
still valid today. A/G believes ‘yes’, it is valid,
however, there is biblical reasons for not
establishing a formal position as the Apostle and
Prophets today. So, yes, the positional gifts of
apostles and prophets exists today, however, to make
a formal authoritative position today has no
Biblical support. (Chapter 8, slide #4)
Romans 12 identify several other serving
gifts...gift of generosity is demonstrated through
the bountiful giving of money, possessions, and
giving of self beyond just giving tithes. (Slide #4)
One of the purposes for the Baptism of the Holy
Spirit is for believers to become effective
Humility is the right heart attitude for believers
to be used by the Holy Spirit (Slide #6, Chapter 8)
Chapter 9
In John 16, Jesus calls the Holy Spirit, the
Paraclete = the One Who comes along side of
you...the Counselor, the Comforter, Helper and
Advocate are English translations of Paraclete.
(Slide #9, Chapter 9)
We see in Romans 8: 26, that the Spirit prays
through us by groanings that words cannot express,
we often call that experience ‘praying in the
Spirit’ (Slide #10)
The Church Age and the Age of the Spirit are
synonymous...started on the Day of Pentecost and
Chapter 10
When looking at sickness, death, etc., we know that
it came into the world as a result of the Fall of Man
and Satan uses sickness and diseases to oppress
mankind as a part of the sin curse he caused. (Slide
#2)
We know that since the Fall of Man, God has declared
that physical death is the end waiting for every
person (Chapt 10, page 63)
We know Jesus still heals because healing is a part
of His atonement Is 53 (Slide #4 & #5)
The Lord will use both His divine intervention and
medical doctors for healing (Slide #3)
We can develop a communion with Jesus for healing by
guarding our time to meditate on Jesus through
reading God’s Word (pg 61)
James 5 gives us the Biblical pattern for
Chapter 11
Keep in mind, our physical bodies will not be fully
redeemed (healed) until death and we gain our
resurrected/immortal bodies (Slide #10)
Chapter 12 Our Blessed Hope
As we await His imminent (true business) return,
Jesus spoke of an increase of persecution and
calamities to occur (Matt 24-28) {Slide #2}
As A/G members, we are pre-tribulation rapture
believers (Slide #3)
Paul teaches in II Thess, that the trumpet of the
Lord will sound, the dead in Christ shall rise first
Know this:
Consider the “Day of the Lord” starts at the rapture
(catching up of the believers) until the 2nd Coming
of Christ (Slide #8)
Chapter 13
The Great Tribulation is defined as God’s judgement
on unbelievers. This time period includes seals,
trumpets, and bowls of judgement as defined in the
Book of Rev. (Slide #11)
Events in heaven during the tribulation include:
(Slide #8)
(1) the judgment seat of Christ, where believers’
works are judged (I Cor 3: 13) sometimes known
as the bema judgement and
(2) the Marriage Supper of the Lamb (Revelation
Rev. 20 tells of the Great White Throne
Judgement...one of the saddest section of the
Bible...the wicked dead will be resurrected,
judged, and cast into the lake of fire for
eternity... (page 77)
Consider: Slide #13 refers to the ‘sins that so
easily entangle us’ from Heb 12... these sins refer
to our unbelief and our failure to mature in
Christ...
1Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a
great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off
everything that hinders and the sin that so easily
entangles. And let us run with perseverance the
race marked out for us, 2fixing our eyes on
